Impact or Intention – which is more important?

If an organisation puts money into social impact projects/initiatives does it matter what their intentions are or how they sourced the funds? Should we be focussing on the result and that the money will contribute to achieving good instead of the reason or intention?
Would you be happy if a social initiative was funded by an organisation that is contributing to global issues such as an Oil or Tobacco company or should we stop these types of organisations from contributing, or even existing - even if it means less money for impact?
